Baby's Moments

The way her face lights up with smiles when I enter the room.
The way her arms come up to greet me.
The way she sits by herself on the mat to play with her toys.
The way she says "Da-da-da-da."
The giggles when I tickle her.

Funny Things She Said

"Where did you learn the word 'foolish' ?" I asked.
"Well, big sister taught me the word 'fool' from the silly boys in her class. And I added 'ish.' "

On another day, I was speaking to an adult.
"I tend to find parents of an only child to be a bit more protective since they...." I paused a bit to tend to baby and my kindergarten child finished the statement for me.

"Because they don't have a BACK-UP kid?"


This was followed by tears of laughter....for a long time.

Baby's Hands

When she holds your thumb while nursing...
When she first discovers the grabbing power of her hands...
When she waves her first bye-bye...
When she holds her own hands in front of her...
When she touches her toes for the first time...

When Baby Falls Asleep in Your Arms

Those closed eyelids, the peaceful face, the soft breathing, the tiny hairs on her head...I could hold her forever.

Birth

Right after the final push, baby cries and she is put onto your chest.
Utter happiness. The physical pain disappears for that one moment.

The 9 months of anticipation and the uncertain yet loving lifetime adventure ahead all culminate at that one instant... resulting in tears of joy.
